There is a huge difference between the fairy tale of today and of one dating back much farther. All night long, the woodcutter's wife harped on and on at her husband till, at dawn, he led Hansel and Gretel away into the forest. Some of the sickest killers and creepiest tales that cinema has seen have been inspired by real events. Popular culture had its tales back again, but Perrault's name remains inseparable from these stories.
